Normally when people tell me about the latest craze I take it with a grain of salt, more like an iceberg of salt. Spinners? Come on, you have to be kidding me.
But the latest craze in marketing is a different story. When something new comes out that absolutely dominates the attention of marketers, that is something worth learning about.
This is what happened with chatbots. First, everyone was raving about how they are going to replace apps, or about how slow they still are, or about how AI is about to destroy the human race (thanks, Elon Musk). Then, marketers started using them and writing about them, and that’s when things got pretty interesting.
So, what’s my conclusion about these strange chatbot creatures? That if you start using them they will help you increase your business ten times. You don’t believe me? Check these 3 examples of what chatbots allow you to do:
1. Use Chatbots to Increase Open Rates to 90%
Traditional email marketing has an open rate of 20-24% (smart insights). That seems really low, doesn’t it? Only a fifth of everyone you send your email to will actually open it? That’s crazy. You might as well delete 80% of your list. Just kidding, don’t do it!
Here is where chatbots come in. You can create a chatbot on Facebook Messenger that records every person that sends or receives a message from you and adds them to a list. Then, along with sending out your weekly emails to your email list, you can send out a short update to your list on Messenger.
The statistics for this are incredible. Chatbots yield 88% open rate and a 56% click-through rate. This is because chat messages are informal, and people love getting them.
My friend Josh Fechter uses chatbots to send out his weekly content and it gets seen and clicked on every single week. Here is an example:
He uses various social media channels (LinkedIn viral posts, Facebook groups) to get people to click on his chatbot landing page which takes them straight to his chat. He has been able to get literally 30,000 subscribers this way, as well as a ton of leads to his digital agency business.
2. Use Chatbots to create a buy button on the go
One of the most powerful features of chatbots is that they allow people to buy stuff literally on the go. Wherever you are you can just hop on a chat, get some product recommendations and purchase your products in a few seconds. This is the convenience that we are looking for.
If you don’t have the time to surf the web and look through an online catalog, then this allows you a quick way to shop without all the hassle.
One example of this is the makeup company called Modiface which uses a chatbot and some augmented reality to send product recommendations and allow customers to buy their favorite lipstick on Messenger
Another example is BellyHungry which helps customers find their favorite dishes and book restaurant reservations on the go.
3. Use chatbots to get more customers
Obviously, all of these ways will get you more customers. But with thousands of bots out there you don’t necessarily have to create your own bot. Sometimes you can join another bot.
If you are a restaurant you can actually partner up with Bellyhungry to get reservations and get more people to come through your doors. No matter what industry you are in just look up a relevant bot on Botlist and see how you can have your business added to their existing offering.
How to create your own chatbot?
Creating a bot is actually much easier than you think. If you have no coding experience and want to create something then you can use Chatfuel or Manychat, both of which have free plans.
You can also use template providers like Chatobook and get a pre-made bot with all the features that you need.
If you know how to code, then you can definitely check out the Facebook Developers Messenger platform and use the API.
Chatbots are super powerful. They can help you get way higher open and clickthrough rates, they can help you send out content better, and get more customers to your business. You can create your own bot or partner up with an existing bot that offers a variety of services or products.
The great thing is that you don’t have to eliminate any other marketing channel that you are currently using. You can use chatbots to boost your email efforts, improve your customer’s experience on social media, sell your product on the go, and get more views on your blog.
If you are smart and not rich enough (who is?) I would jump on this as soon as possible.
